Camera battery issue... Anyone tech-savvy come and help please?

So here's the deal:
A long time ago, the battery for my camera was charged incorrectly (with the wrong charger) which messed up the battery completely and therefore I can no longer use the camera because the screen is really messed up when I use the camera, Would getting a new battery fix my problem? Also, I'm not sure if the lens is good anymore, so I was wondering how I would check to see if it works/

Too much or too voltage or incorrect polarity from a wrong battery will likely cause the camera to act funny. The only way is to find someone with the same battery type or buy one. Or buy new camera.
