What is the macro/infinity button on the Canon camera?
I have a Canon digital camera. There is a macro/infinity button. I know what the macro is and use it, but there is nothing about the infinity part of that button in the Canon manual. When I press that button, only macro comes up, not infinity which is 2 triangles. I don't know how to get the infinity on the screen, and what it is used for. Hope someone can help. Thank you.
All that you need to know about can easily be found in your User Guides. Just look up 'Infinity' in the Index of your Advanced User Guide (it may possibly direct you to your Basic User Guide).
Infinity focus is probably not accessible while in Auto mode, so you may need to select M or one of the scene modes instead.
Your Infinity focus mode (which you say looks like two triangles) is actually an icon of Mountains (or a Landscape). So, if you were taking an image of a landscape (or distant subject), you should select Infinity focus.
From one Canon manual...
"Infinity...Use this mode to record subjects 3m (9.8ft) or more from the end of the lens."
Also, have a look at the very handy reference chart at the very back of your Advanced User Guide. It shows you...which "Functions are Available in Each Shooting Mode" . Infinity (as well as every other camera function can be found here). This chart also shows you on which page each function can be found on, so refer to it often if you have any queries...
good luck
