Introducing ViewSonic VX2739WM The World's First 27” LCD Monitor With 1ms Response Period

The ViewSonic VX2739WM is often a 27-inch, 1920x1080 TN-based display. Coated in gloss black, the fascia is plain save for a single power button in the centre, which glows white down below the ViewSonic logo. Your VX2739WM epitomises the "cheap and cheerful" category. It's not terribly power efficient, its HDMI performance is lacklustre and the speakers are best not mentioned. However, it does give a huge, full HD monitor intended for an incredibly cheap price tag - and we'd wager many individuals would be happy together with just that.

This is not at first chance ViewSonic has outed any monster monitor, with the 26-inch VX2640w providing a complete 1080p resolution before this. It is, however, the first 27-inch screen we've seen considering the lower 1080p resolution - competitors like the Dell UltraSharp U2711 or perhaps Apple's iMac come in in the much more impressive 2560x1440, and both are based on IPS technology, which gives them superior colours plus viewing angles. Even Dell's old UltraSharp 2709w offered that 16: 10 resolution of 1920x1200.

ViewSonic offers a three-year warranty for its LCD products. If you do have a bright or dark subpixel, you might return the monitor on the reseller up to month from the date associated with purchase. After the four weeks DOA guarantee, things have a little murkier. While a monitor may have an HDMI port that's no guarantee it'll display images as expected. We hooked up a Playstation 3 and checked for 24p potential, as well as judder in addition to ran the HQV Blu-ray test to check out how well it coped together with an interlaced source and also noise.

ViewSonic has arguably decreased off its perch within the TFT monitor market recently. Its monitors were once a wonderful choice for gamers, being affordable yet capable and were the 1st TFTs for many lovers making the move from their desk-hogging CRTs. As result times dipped below 16ms plus monitors went widescreen, although, the competition became very fierce and we've only seen a couple of monitors from Viewsonic from the last few years which are worth considering at all. Perhaps its because ViewSonic continues to be championing 3D displays that have pretty dire image excellent.

As a pleasant surprise, the VX2739WM actually enjoyed 24p content. Not consequently pleasant was its 1080i efficiency in HQV, failing every test. We can't pretend it is particularly bad for the field - the large majority of monitors fail these checks, with only high-end monitors much like the U2711 passing. As these the VX2739WM is very good for gaming using accelerating resolutions, but you'll want to avoid interlaced, and the judder obtained in the MI: III scenes makes it generally unsuitable for video clip watching over HDMI at the same time. There are enough inputs to satisfy most people's needs though, including HDMI as well as dual-link DVI together with HDCP support and D-sub. There are four USB 2 plug-ins, two on one side from the bezel with the other two about the base - a fine touch. There is a set of speakers, although as with many monitor speakers we've find, they're not amazing.

ViewSonic persists with annoyingly putting buttons about the side. It's not exactly conducive to adjusting at nighttime either, but with only several buttons muscle memory will eventually kick in. Viewsonic has made this VX2739WM's overdrive completely switchable. In fact, three levels of pixel response are recommended and it's only the fastest that is prone to overdrive-related nastiness. Of program, it's also only that fastest that hits the 1ms metric. But no issue.

Thankfully, the ViewSonic VX2739WM possesses received ViewSonic's newer OSD, which sports a cleaner look and you can find your way about, button mashing aside. Don't expect anything fancy here though when it comes to adjustments - just such as stand, you're given standard options only. Vexingly, scaling selections are limited too, merely offering 4: 3 and also fill.

There's also little in the manner of adjustment, with just 25 degrees of tilt available. With simply no height adjustment available, the reasoning behind is you tilt the screen in your liking. The thing is definitely, monitors are best viewed exactly with your head stage. Instead you'll need to look for some magazines to add up under the VX2739WM's remain to raise it as appropriate. If it's too high first, well you're stuck. It happens to be a cardinal sin given you'll be using the monitor every time you use your PC. With this fact in mind, the lack of length adjustment means you're picking a risk as to whether you'll find it comfortable and we suspect for a few, the VX2739WM just fell heli-copter flight end of your shopping list.

It's rare to find good speakers within a monitor, and ViewSonic carries on the fine tradition associated with providing incredibly poor audio tracks. While it has improved mid-range than some, it sacrifices high-end clarity and also completely lacks bass. The very best firing speakers also appear distant, and although a decent volume can be reached, it distorts easily. As usual, we recommend maintaining to dedicated speakers, or using the headphone jack about the side to bypass this monitor speakers completely.

Which means we're very content to recommend Viewsonic's latest. With regard to under $300, it's an extremely nice image-rendering device. Simply don't get too psyched by all that 1ms malarkey. It's basically a lot of rubbish. On additional hand if you're accustomed to the quirks of TN engineering, don't mind lacklustre colour reproduction and some backlight bleed and may live without height change, despite that being a rather long list, the VX2739WM will probably be worth considering if your once something larger than 24in. Bigger is better after all
