Cooler Cooling
Energy Saving Air Conditioner Found at UC Davis Challenge
Coolerado Corp, based in Denver, Colorado, has been announced as the winner of the UC Davis Western Cooling Challenge for 2009. The UC Davis challenge was originally designed to aid manufacturers in making better, more energy efficient air conditioners and for retailers to find out more information about them.
The H-80 5 ton commercial air conditioning unit was entered by Coolerado and was announced the winner after the results of federal tests came back. The federal tests found that the rooftop unit overall uses over 50% less energy than a conventional cooling system.
The results of these tests came as a big surprise for some after they were released from the US Government's National Renewable Energy Labratory. The director of the UC Davis challenge, Mark Modera, originally believed that the H-80 unit would only save 40% energy compared to standard units. However, after the results of the tests were concluded, it was found that the unit actually uses 80% less power compared to a standard commercial cooling unit.
The unit submitted by Coolerado, the H-80 5 ton rooftop unit, was originally designed for use on small commercial buildings such as shops and offices. Each unit has the ability to cool anywhere between 1,500 and 3,000 square feet, certainly alot more than a simple cieling fan.
No doubt with this announcement, a large number of companies will look to invest in a H-80 unit to try and improve their green profile. Air conditioning and air purifier units and they are normally considered to be a luxury, for that reason they are considered to be extremely bad in the eyes of environmental campaigners. Now with this announcement, the H-80 should become popular with companies and slightly more popular with green campaigners. Although I suspect many customers don't really consider what's keeping the store cool and refreshing.
Despite this good news for the air conditioning business, we might see some more soon. Many other companies have also submitted their cooling units, not just Coolerado, however, the results of these tests have not yet been released. Whether any will beat the H-80 is unknown.
Does a transmission oil cooler significantly affect engine cooling when installed in front of radiator?
Installing on a 2009 Subaru Forester.
If your Subaru didn't come with a transmission cooler, you do not need one. Unless you put some other type of transmission in it or constantly tow heavy objects.
If the car came with one, it obviously will not significantly affect engine cooler. Most car manufacturers place the transmission oil cooler in front of the radiator.
