Xbox 360 Freezing Up While In Play - Why?

One of the most common issues with Microsoft Xbox 360 is Xbox 360 freezing problem. This article explains the underlying cause behind the xbox 360 freezing errors and how to fix it effectively.

What does Xbox 360 Freeze mean?

It means that your Xbox 360 freezes or locks up during game play. You might see your screen showing distorted graphics, fuzzy or even blank.

In some cases, the sound might freeze as well.

Gamers have reported that this does not happen specifically to any game, and any sort of scenario can cause this issue.

What caused it?

Couple of reasons can cause Xbox 360 freeze problem -

- Overheating xbox over heats fix

Overheating can cause your GPU to become unstable. This will result in Xbox 360 freeze problem.

- Disc Error Xbox 360 reading disc error

Certain part of your game disc might be extremely scratched. While trying to read it, it could result in lag and Xbox 360 freeze issues

- Incomplete Updates

When you hook up your Xbox 360 to the internet, there would be certain firmware and software updates that your Xbox 360 need to download. If these downloads are incomplete, it could result in your Xbox 360 to freeze during play.

- Full cache

Cache basically loads up the games configuration into its memory. If the cache becomes full, you need to flush it's content to avoid your Xbox 360 to freeze

How To Fix Xbox 360 Freeze Problem

It's highly suggested to seek help from a professional Xbox 360 Repair Guide with Videos. Many Xbox 360 Problems has been fixed with these repair guides and I don't see why it would not work for you

The Common Fix Method (explained with detailed in Repair Guides)

1. Open up your console using fine tip poker. Remove the latches and faceplate.
2. Using a Torx 10 screwdriver, unscrew the metal case under the plastic case.
3. Unplug the cables to the DVD drive, and take it out.
4. Take out the fan and motherboard.
5. Using the earlier poker, remove the X-clamps that holds the heatsink. See this
6. Using a screwdriver, remove the heatsink and you would see the CPU and GPU chips now.
7. Clean the heatsink, GPU and CPU.
8. Apply thermal compound preferably Artic Silver 5 over the GPU and CPU. Do not over-apply.
9. Let it dry for 5 minutes.
10. Purchase nylon washers and put 2 on each of the heatsink screws.
11. Put the heatsink back on top of the screws and with a little force, push them down and screw them up real tight. This will be a major help in balancing the heatsink placement on the CPU and GPU.
12. Screw everything back again and turn your Xbox 360 on.

The steps above would have helped you to fix the Xbox 360 Freeze Problem.

All of steps above are clearly illustrated with Videos and Pictures in the Xbox 360 Repair Guide. Not only that, The Repair Guide shows how to fix other common errors as well, such as Red Light Errors, No Video, E74 and many others.

Fixing your Xbox 360 at the comfort of your own is easy and completely an educational process.

Good Luck Fixing!

Can anyone recommend me a cpu fan/heatsink or how to find the right one?

So i have this HP a6314f
AMD Athlon(tm) X2 dual core 5000+
I have been wanting to change the fan since the comp keeps shutting down when ever the cpu gets really hot. I dont know how to buy a fan to replace it and which are the best to conduct the heat. It gets really frustrating when i just fully loaded a movie, havent even watch it yet then i go to play a game and the whole comp shuts down! (My comp only shuts down when i play games like l4d). So if anyone can help me decide what kind of Fan or better yet tell me what to look for when buying a heatsink/fan. THankSS!

You may not need a new cpu fan, although I like to add a few to the case..front and back good airflow.

Now are you familiar with CMOS/BIOS ?
In here is where you can set your hardware and tweak settings.

To get into cmos you hit the DEL key right after you power up. Although yours maybe different try HP site or it may tell you on screen but look close it wont be there long.

OK now for the hints...
AMD's are really into fan settings..some of which are called "Cool & Quiet".
If you disable these your computer will use alittle more electricity but they run alot cooler !
Also there are settings to "Over Clock" meanning running higher speeds for ram and cpu...downside less life for parts and they run (you guessed it) HOTTER.

So if you run case fans front & back one to pull in other to push out and run your fans the old fashioned way without all the monitoring your box will be cooler.... also be sure there isn't alot of dust/dirt etc inside the case.
