Will my heavy heatsink cause problems to my motherboard?

I bought a scythe mugen 2 cpu air cooler and it ways almost 900 grams...
i'm gonna install it on my asus m3a78 motherboard
will it cause ANY problems to the motherboard?
if yes any tips ?

Depends on how you plan to handle it. I watched someone set down a tower vertically that had a Zalman 9700 in it, which only weighs 750g, and it tore the CPU socket out of the mother board. This happened cause of the torque applied due to the configuration of the cooling pipes.

I don't think Scythe fans would be a problem, cause they're a block shape, which doesn't offer much leverage. As long as you don't drop your rig, you'll be fine. I use Gigabyte motherboards, so I don't worry much about that. (thick PCB).

Any reason you're putting such a large fan on that old motherboard? Planning to overclock your CPU?
