Yes, as "rumberg" stated just because you "newly" acquired the product doesn't mean that it has a fresh warranty. That is always the risk with buying or receiving something "used" because it does not have a guaranteed manufacturers warranty. If you're lucky you might be able to call Microsoft and purchase an extended warranty, but if the system hasn't had any problems in its past then it seems like you picked a winner.
